The legacies of history lead to the problems between Israel Palestine. Since, ancient times the region known as Judea was home of the Jews, however, it was conquered by the Romans and they renamed it Palestine. The Arabs later conquered the regions of Palestine and made their home in it, for thousands of years.
The Rise of the Conflict
The Israel Palestine Conflict escalated when the Zionist movement raised its head. In accordance with the League of Nations Mandate, Britain was given charge of building a national home for the people of Jewish origins. The seeds were sown for the birth of the State of Israel. There was resentment amongst the Arabs as there was going to be when somebody would lay claim to their land.
This further cemented the divisive history of Israel Palestine and the Arabs of the region, a region that was later going to be named Israel, and Palestinian Arabs revolted. In lieu of the revolt Britain put a stop to the migration of Jews to Palestine.
The Holocaust and Israel
Holocaust is blight on world history. It is a piece of history that one would like to forget but will forever be etched on the memory. Following the holocaust there was tremendous pressure on Britain and the United Nations to allow the Jewish people to immigrate to Palestine. Finally, in 1947, the region was partitioned into Israel and Palestine. The Arabs did not accept the partition and the Israel Palestine war broke out, which was essentially a war between Israel and the Arabs. The Jews on the back of immense military support from Western countries won decisively resulting in the expansion of Israel and the creation of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees.
The Occupation by Israel
Israel, after a 6 day war in 1967 occupied various Palestinian territories. Israel at this point of time did not want to relinquish the territories acquired. This all but solidified the hatred between Israel Palestine and due to the aggression between both the sides there was no solution in sight for a long time. Israel occupied the regions of West Bank and Gaza Strip. The West initiated a peace process to provide a solution to the animosity and process continues to this day. There has been some progress made. However a few steps taken ahead by both the sides lead to many steps tack back. So, things usually stand at an impasse wherein Israel Palestine peace process is concerned.
Israel Palestine Relations - The Way Forward
There have been many solutions made to take the Israel Palestine peace process forward. What Israel wants is the complete dismantling of terror groups like Hamas. Palestinian organizations on the other hand want a complete stop to the aggression from Israel. In recent times the regular blockades of Gaza have been detrimental to finding a solution. Experts believe that Israel must stop blockading as it affects the lives of the common people, who as a result resent Israel.
At the end of the day each side, Israel and Palestine, believes its own version of history. Its going to be a long and difficult road for Israel Palestine relations however, with the continued proactive efforts of world leaders, a solution for Israel Palestine is indeed possible. Both Israel and Palestine need to make concessions for the same.
